Will Hike for Pizza

I found the most incredible restaurant yesterday. It's kind of an out of way location, and requires a little driving. Once you get there, parking isn't cheap. We paid $5 just to park for an hour or two. It's also BYOB, so Tim and I carried along some water bottles. On the plus side, the food was incredible and CHEAP. Where else can a couple eat in a private dining room with incredible views for $5?

The only problem? You have to hike the food in yourself.

Last night we decided a mini adventure was in order so we picked up a Little Caesar's $5 cheese pizza and headed to Fort Mountain State Park. The views up there are incredible and there is a little viewing area where you can look over the whole region. I know some people hike with hydration packs and backpacks, but the pizza on the head routine works pretty well too.

We got there and the place was deserted, unsurprising for 7:30 on a Monday night. We dug straight into the pizza and enjoyed the silence up there. Then I started talking because I needed to remark on how silent it was. I don't know why, but even $5 cheese pizza tastes incredible when you have views like we did.

The only thing I would change about this perfect adventure? My choice of shoes. I had no idea we would be hiking, so I had some cheap Tom's ripoffs. Next time I will opt for shoes made out of more than string and cardboard.

Are you a fan of hiking? Where's your favorite place EVER to hike?
I really liked hiking the start of the Appalachian Trail here in Georgia just to say I had. I also love Fort Mountain, mostly because it's so close to our house.

Do you have specific hiking shoes?
I have an actual pair of hiking boots but I never wear them. Normally I wear an old pair of really sturdy trail running shoes and that works fine.

Just a heads up...
The same company I partnered with last November to give away free entries to the Publix Atlanta Marathon is putting on another great race - The Allstate Life Insurance℠ Atlanta 13.1 Marathon®. The race takes place on Sunday, October 7th and starts as well as ends in Town Brookhaven.  I'm really excited to be there for this one too - and also give away some free entries and discount codes for registration in the future! If you live in Atlanta or can travel for the race - pencil this into your calendar!

  1. Those views are ridiculous. What a fun idea.

I love hiking. Mike and I actually got engaged on a hike. Lately, though, I'm enjoying trail running even more. Basically, you can cover way more ground and see more places if you run. Plus, if we run, Bungee can be off leash and have fun.

  3. I've got hiking boots, waterproof ones that keep my feet dry in wet conditions that I use for backpacking and winter camping. I hike in old trail running shoes for day hikes.

  7. Those views are AWESOME.

I love hiking. Normally I do all my hiking in trail running shoes, but once I started tackling 12-16 hour hikes I bought fancy hiking shoes. I have worn them once. whoops.

  9. What GORGEOUS views! I love the idea of hiking and bringing your own food. I have this whole vision of hiking and picnicking laid out but I'm not sure if my bf would be game hah!

    Looking great!

  10. What a fun plan! I have done a lot of hiking in the Beartooth Mountains in Montana and some in Estes Park in Colorado, all gorgeus, and my choice of shoes is always running shoes.

  11. ahhhhh!!! the views really are incredible! and seriously...when i am hiking/camping i will eat some things i could never imagine eating in real life but they taste so good out on the trails:) that isnt really true of pizza though. i would eat pizza any time:) i love hiking so much. one of my all time favorite things. i dont get to do many of my most favoritest trails any more because they are tucked away in the mountains and the girl by herself out in the mountains doesnt really sound safe. i stick to trails on the front of the mountains that are much more populated now and they are still just as fun:) plus i have my 2 8 lb pups to protect me. haha.

  13. The photo of you eating that slice of pizza, looking over the railing, is just absolutely beautiful.

That is a great example of how to eat a $5 pizza. Paired with a priceless view!

  15. What a great idea for a date night. I love to hike but there are not many places near by. When I go visit family in CO I usually always go hiking. I bet I would enjoy pizza even more with a little work to get it.

As for hiking shoes.... none. I would prbly just wear my running shoes.

  21. I would hike for pizza too with those views! So beautiful! We don't have anything like that near us, otherwise I would do that all the time! We just have a very flat trail near our home which is nice, but no real cool views.

  25. You are hilarious with your pizza hike. Those are absolutely gorgeous views! My favorite place to hike is on the Oregon coast - so green, lots of ocean views, & makes you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere. Love it!

  28. I've always wanted to hike the AT. I love hiking...but haven't done much. I'd love to do a whole lot more. My favorite place to hike is the Lauterbrunnen Valley in Switzerland. I prefer hiking in hiking boots.

  32. What a great restaurant! :)

The most gorgeous place I've ever hiked was Sedona, AZ... On "home turf" the Three Sisters waterfall in San Diego is pretty amazing during wildflower season, and Torrey Pines state park is incredible (and easily accessible) any day of the year.

  33. What a great idea!!!! I'd hike for pizza….and then probably tell myself it's okay to have an extra slice too :)

I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for the race entries giveaway!!!! But seriously, holy hills!

  34. At its April 27 meeting, the BOJ extended the remaining maturity of JGBs to be purchased under its asset buying programme to up to three years, from two years previously.
But even so, the BOJ fell short of its government bond-buying target under the zebra toms programme last week, and also missed its target for buying government bonds under its market operations for the first time in more than six years.

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
