I Promise I'm Not Pregnant...

...but all I wanted to eat for dinner last night was pickles and peanut butter animal crackers. I don't have a good excuse, I just really wanted to eat them And they were absolutely delicious. 1,000 calories well spent. I can only assume that the lack of exercise is making me make irrational decisions.

Oddly enough, hubby wasn't into the idea of animal crackers and pickles for dinner. I know, he's so weird. Instead I fed him food I got for free, because I'm always putting others first. And I didn't really want it anyway. Does my generosity know no bounds?

He was the lucky recipient of Green Giant Steamers, of the Mac & Cheese & Broccoli variety. Definitely heavy on the broccoli, so I can imagine it would be great for someone who absolutely needs to make their children eat something green. But other than that, it was microwaved mac and cheese, and low calorie at that - 250 in total. Not my cup of tea, but they would be a good side dish if you're into that kind of thing.

Seriously...100% not pregnant. But who knew marathon madness would also cause me to eat more, find pickles fantastic with everything, and up my maternal nesting instincts? But come on...how cute are these lovelies?

There is this giant magnet drawing me away from work (or anything remotely productive) and towards cuddling on the couch with a book and two warm cats.

My husband is trying to use this new found weakness of mine to try and convince me we need a puppy. Nice try, Tim. Nice try. You have 48 hours to get me to agree, because after the marathon I can only hope I'll be back to normal.

I finished what I think is my last run before the marathon - an easy 4 miles. I plan on doing a short walk on Friday to shake things out, and then it's go time!

Are you an animal cracker fan? More importantly, do you like frosted animal crackers covered in sprinkles?
I had them a while back and Christina was trying to find some recently too...and now I haven't seen any of the frosted ones in a while either! Luckily these peanut butter ones were around to cheer me up.

Would you have more pets if you have money/space/time?
We have two cats, but I would rather add a third one to the mix than a dog. Please don't hate me...but I have never really been a dog person at all.

I received the Green Giant Valley Steamers free of charge thanks to the Foodbuzz Tastemaker program, but the review was entirely my own. Well, kinda. Hubby ate it, so it was mostly his. I had a bite. This disclaimer is getting long, my bad.

  1. Frosted are the best. I almost bought them Monday when I spotted them grocery shopping but knew I'd get angry at the kids if I had to share them so I put them back. Great mom...I know. I don't want pets. I have two cats. That's two too many. I hate their litter boxes.

  2. Totally a fan of the frosted animal crackers. I stole some of my niece's a couple of weeks ago. Shhh :)

  3. We've got one dog and thought about a second to keep her company, but then we realized how hard it would be to get other people to watch two dogs while we were away, so we're sticking with one.

Animal crackers with frosting and sprinkles are like crack. If the bag is open, I'm eating every single one.

  4. I love pickles and I'm not pregnant so that's totally not weird to want them for dinner. And I am always making random foods "go" together too. SO totally normal. No judgment here.

We have 2 cats also and I'm in love with them. I always grew up with dogs and never thought I'd want cats, but I love them a ridiculous amount.

GOOD LUCK on your marathon!!! Can't wait to hear about it :)

  5. Glad to see you're still at it. I have been M.I.A. for a while but I'm back baby! :)

  6. Carbs & salt... just what you need!!!

  7. I feel the same way about cats and dogs. Kevin wants a dog but I just want more cats. Like 20 more. I would be that crazy cat lady if I didn't have him to stop me. He loves the cats too, but I think the fact that I make him change the litter keeps him from wanting more. :)

  8. I have the space but not the time or cash but if I did, I would add LOADS more animals ... I'm thinking goats and horses and ducks oh and another dog ... I would love a cat but hubster HATES cats but they would eat the rats ..... mmmmmm We currently have 2 bull mastiffs (but now the deer don't come through anymore) and 7 chickens & a few rats I'm sure are hiding.

Get a dog, nothing (besides the hubster) can love you like a dog.

Sounds like you are tapering quite nicely, she says like she knows all about it!!! NOT!

  9. I CRAVE pickles during marathon training, too. They're the perfect combination of crunchy, hydrating and salty. Yum!

  10. I have been eating animal crackers all day, I'm glad that I am not the only one!

    ReplyDelete
  11. Animal crackers! I used to eat a whole bag of animal crackers in a day's time. I would just eat animal crackers all day long. And I wonder how I gained all that weight!

  12. I'm with Tim, you need a puppy! We have one little dog and it took me nearly 3 years to convince my husband to get her. He grew up with a cat and wasn't a dog person either but now he totally is. I would have every homeless dog on the planet if I could.

  13. if you have Animalitos at your local mexican grocery, get them! they are light and crunchy. they are so much tastier than the americano variety.

  14. ooooo frosted cookies and animal cookies are my fave! Where did you find the peanut butter ones? SOOOO yummy! Are you SURE!?! you arent pregnant? Like REALLY REALLY sure?! :)

  15. Yum! Just talking about pickles makes me want a pickle, cheese and dorito sandwich! I ate so many of those when I was pregnant. I still love them. Don't knock em till you try em!

  16. im pretty sure what you ate was perfect marathon prep. salt + carbs. youre golden and will kick oprahs booty.

  18. The funny thing is that I'm in the midst of taper and got mad at a vending machine this afternoon when it wasn't stocked with animal crackers.

  19. Oh my god peanut butter animal crackers I am on the hunt for them tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I love pickles - anytime! Good luck this weekend!

  21. We don't have animal crackers here :(
I am however in love with all the peanut butter flavour things that you lucky lovelies in the USA have at your fingertips. Perhaps living in Australia is seriously saving me from some problems in the supermarket :)
When I was training for the half marathon I would get food cravings too.
Marathons are like babies - but we're the ones who are crying :)
    Good Luck in the marathon!!!

  22. That picture is too cute! We have two cats and I refuse to let a dog in the house. My husband doesn't understand why but I know that I would be the dog's primary caregiver and I'm already stocked up with the 3 kiddos. We did recently add a fish to the family. He currently resides in my fruit punch bowl. Oh and guess who takes complete care of the fishie. Yup me!

  23. Seriously? They make peanut butter animal crackers? I had no idea. Have you tried the chocolate ones? YUMMO. Ah - I get the husband and two cat thing - it's nearly irresistible.

  24. blah i HATE pickles!! cucumbers soaked in EVIL! but i do love animal crackers!

  25. I have finally convinced my fiance to get a dog! We are actually going to look at one this Sunday and I can't wait! A little puggle. If I could I would live on a farm with as many animals as I could fit...what can I say I was an animal science major.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ok, I thought you meant you dipped the animal crackers in PB, I didn't realize they were PB flavored, I was very disappointed. Nothing is as good as real PB. The sprinkle kind are awesome, surprisingly plain are delightful though. Pickles are the best, I eat a plate of them after long runs in my ice bath! No pets for me even if I was a millionaire - I don't eat meat, I'm doing enough for the animals. I'm a mean non - animal lover.

  27. I love animal crackers! The chocolate chip snackimals are my favorite but we don't have them here! I'm stocking up next time I go to the states! I'm still on a mission to find the frosted ones :)

I would totally have a zoo in my house if I was home more! I'm just too busy... Always working or out training for something! I wouldn't want to neglect any pets.

  28. If it makes you feel any better I just had a mix of curried salmon, chik'n nuggets and popcorn for dinner...well not all mixed together, but you know what I mean ;)

I want to steal your kittens!!!

  29. I love frosted animal crackers with the sprinkles. I could eat a whole bag in one sitting. yum

    ReplyDelete
  30. I f-ing LOVE frosted animal crackers. I can't buy them because that's all I would eat :-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. oh my gosh, those pink and white frosted/sprinkled animal crackers are a HIGHLIGHT of my childhood!! love them! actually it's funny cuz pickles make that list too...i promise i'm not preggo's either. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  32. this made me smile as EVERY TIME I EAT PICKLES I get that question too :)

    ReplyDelete
  33. Now I really want animal crackers!!

yum i love broccoli with cheese. Im sure its not very healthy!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mt. Olive pickles - GROSS!!!! Girl, I love a good dill pickle but definitely not Mr. Olive - if you're eating them for a meal - you should try Clausin (sp?) - in the fridge section of the grocery store - Y.U.M.!!!!

I like frosted animal crackers - but not enough to buy them though. Would eat them if they were near me though :)

Puppies are adorable and a LOT of fun - I vote yes! You'll have a blast . . . great company and entertainment!!! Ha!!!

Thinking of you and wishing you an awesome race. Good luck and have fun!!!!

  35. I love anything with sprinkles on it, including frosting covered animal crackers.

I can't believe we have our first marathons this weekend. I am so excited about it, I am ready to just do it and see what on earth all this is about :)

  36. peanut butter animal crackers?! Yes, please! I don't really have normal cravings, so I didn't crave anything out of the ordinary the week of my marathon, but I was pretty sentimental (I think it was the emotions and anxiety running high).

You will dominate this race, just stay relaxed and confident!

    ReplyDelete
  37. haven't had frosted graham/animal crackers is SO long. Kinninnicek doens't make frosted ones, just regular animal crackers. Being gluten free means not being fussy ;-)

Pickles= normal cravings when exercising extreme. Hubby is into long gravel/mountain bike races (100, 200 miles) when he's heavy into training, he'll come home, drink pickle juice first, have some pickles and then get his recovery drink down.

  38. I would totally have more dogs if I had the money. We wanted to get Lexi a brother/sister so bad when we got her but she was so destructive I knew I couldn't afford 2 demons!! But that means I have to run/walk extra now to help her get her energy!

I love pickles especially spicy ones!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I always eat more (who am I kidding I eat a ton all the time) right before the marathon. Something about the anxiety makes me turn straight to "snacky" food.

I can't believe your running a marathon tomorrow. Eeeeeeek! I am so excited for you girl. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Adding a puppy if you have two cats would be tough because some cats hate dogs and continue to do so even after living with a dog for years.

Rest well before your big race!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I'm a little late- but Good Luck!! You are probably about done by now!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. The older I get the more I KIND OF want a pet, haha. I've never had one of my own before!! Maybe when I buy a place... I'd hate to get one as a renter because they limit your choices so much!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful...

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou...

Chobani Review and Giveaway!

I'm pretty sure it's not a secret that me and Greek yogurt are in a serious relationship. I know, I know...hubby can read this. But he's well aware of the affair. At least once a day I need my fix. Sometimes it's a mid-morning snack with fruit, or a lunchtime topper for baked potatoes. Other times it's the sweet dessert topped with fruit and chocolate shavings that completes my night. Plain, vanilla, fruity...I could wax poetic about the stuff for ages. Don't worry, I won't. What I will say is that as much as I love Greek yogurt, I figured it was all the same. I saved a little money (18 cents on each container at my local store) in order to get the cheaper no-name brand. Then Chobani was on sale, so I picked up a few. Um, this stuff is THICK! So much creamier and thicker - and tastier - than any other brand I've tried. Sorry, extra 18 cents. You are now being diverted to my Chobani fund. I won a Chobani giveaway a couple of weeks ago hosted by ...
