Cinderella BEFORE the Ball (and a Recovery Run)

When I said I felt like a princess the other day, I did not mean Cinderella when she was still in the floor scrubbing stage. Looks like no one got the memo, because after work today I was sent to do manual labor on our house in progress. Ok, I volunteered. Whatever. Either way, someone trusted me with power tools. Maybe not the wisest of decisions.

While no one outright told me I was doing it wrong, hubs did come in with some sandpaper with a "suggestion" to just do it by hand instead. Wonder why?

Believe it or not, I loved doing this because it means we are one step closer to moving in. Woo-hoo!
Fueled up after the work with a nice pizza covered in tomato puree, tomato slices, garlic, chicken breast, broccoli, and a sprinkle of parmesan. Really hit the spot.

I'm off for a few recovery miles outside to loosen my legs up a bit. No pressure, just nice and easy. Since starting the marathon plan, it's really nice to have a run every once in a while with no time constraints or splits I'm aiming for.

Favorite pizza toppings?
Lately I've been skipping the cheese and loading up on other stuff. The sprinkle of parmesan on the top seems like enough now to me! And broccoli is my new bestie on pizza. Perfect and crispy.

What is your Monday workout?
Easy recovery run, maybe 3-4 miles, and then a quick yoga session to stretch out. Followed by as much time on the foam roller as I can handle!

  1. I love putting feta cheese, mushrooms, and tons of pizza sauce on my pizza. I enjoy the cheese more then the meat.
Monday workout, 15 min interval spin, 1 mile run..pain free, and 20 min elliptical followed by a 20 minute weight session.

  2. KuDos to you for getting away from the cheese! Not sure I could do that. Love broccoli anywhere, anytime.
Monday is typically a rest day although not today.

  5. Today I lifted weights. I ran 10 miles on Sunday so I took the day off from running...back out for 5 miles tomorrow morning! Looks like I know who to call when I have home improvement projects! :)

  6. I just made some yummy gluten free pizza. I actually ate some for breakfast today. Ha ha. I know, weird breakfast, but that's what I was craving. I love BBQ sauce with chicken and pineapple. I also added zucchini to it this time. Good idea to just sprinkle the parmesan and skip the cheese. I'll try that next time. My Monday workout was pilates and a bike ride. I'm also doing RLRF right now, but for the half marathon. I have a hard interval workout to look forward to tomorrow!

  7. Olives. I find pizza disappointing without olives. And hot sauce too- love the Frank's Red Got as the last touch on my pizza.

  9. Aww I think the power tool suits you. I did a nice recovery run today too, tried to keep it slowww enough. My husband eats pizza with no cheese and I thought he was nuts until I saw those pictures you posted. Yum

  10. To answer your question, I have been buying the Bob's Red Mill GF pizza dough mix and making it myself. Have you tried that kind? I think it's really good. Also. apple cinnamon rice cakes are so good! I actually had some tonight. I put peanut butter and honey on it and gave it to my two-year-old. He loved it, and I loved stealing a bite. :)

  12. The pizza pictures make me feel like I need to take the time and make pizza from scratch one of these days.

Good luck on getting closer and closer to getting into the house!

  13. I like chicken fajita pizza - different peppers, onions, chicken breast - yum!

Did a not-so-easy 4 miler today! Wished it would have felt easier and a bummer i don't know why it felt more difficult than I had hoped -hmmm.

Great job with the err, power tools. It's getting exciting . . . soon, soon it will all be yours!!! :)

  18. Everyone seems to be talking about pizza today. Now I want it. I guess I know what I will be making for dinner tonight. :-) My favorite is tomatoes, basil and mozzarella on my pizzas. I think broccoli is great on pizza too.

  19. I usually head straight for the peppers and cherry tomatoes, but broccoli sounds really good! I'll try that next time too...

  21. Skipping the cheese? I don't know if we can be friends anymore. I LOAD my pizza with broccoli, artichoke, onion, garlic, pepper, mushroom, tomato, spinach and any other veggies in my fridge. But cheese is a MUST. Lots of it. My new favorite is buffalo chicken pizza. Maybe I'm a snob but I totally prefer my own pizza to any that I've ordered! Except the deep dish I had in Chicago, of course. So exciting that you are getting close to moving in! Can't wait to see the finished product :)

  22. That pizza looks good... except I am a cheese addict. :)

Recovery runs are the best! So nice to just relax and... run!

  23. I don't think we could be friends if you ever served me cheeseless pizza. That's just wrong. :)

  28. Mmmm, pizza. I love every type and wouldn't mind having it at every meal (if it wouldn't make me 400lbs, lol).

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou

Running Jewelry Giveaway from The Run Home!

Running has a tendency at times to make me feel just a little less feminine that I might like. The curves might disappear just a little (well...the top ones at least. Bottom ones are still out in full force) and I spend more time fiddling with my Garmin than I do putting on make-up. So I love when I can show my interest in running with a beautiful, feminine piece of jewelry. I recently received two necklaces from the great people at The Run Home.   They have an Etsy store full of inspirational necklaces, bracelets and more for athletes. I received this beautiful necklace in the mail from them: A cute running shoe, heart, and a hand-stamped 26.2 charm. In all honesty, I don't think I'll wear this until I have finished the marathon in November. Kind of like wearing a race shirt before you completed the race! But it will make the perfect reward and I can't wait to wear it with pride. The Run Home sent everything to me perfectly packaged--like it was a gift. I loved that:
