So Good, You'll Lick the Bowl!

A few days ago I saw this delicious recipe for honey glazed peaches over at Elle's blog, We Can Begin to Feed.  I've been dreaming about it for days, but I needed to pick up some peaches before I could make it. Best. decision. ever.
Seriously guys, it's so good you'll have to lick the bowl. And then document that act with a photo.

So glad that picture is on the internet. I feel like it's probably one of those things I should have kept to myself. Oh well.

Oh, right! Those peaches. Quick, easy, using simple ingredients. All I did was mix a little butter (ok, olive oil spread) a little honey, and some brown sugar in a hot pan. I stirred for 2-3 minutes, and then tossed in the fresh peach slices to get caramelized.

I've never used honey in a caramel before, but it was so fantastic. The end result was really sweet, even for me, so I served it with plain greek yogurt to cut the sweetness a little. It was amazing! And such a great way for me to use up all those Georgia peaches in season now.

No running today, but on the schedule is some yoga, core, and upper body strength training. Does anyone read Fitness Magazine? I found a pretty interesting article in there today:

In case you can't read size 2 font, that says that people who eat candy and chocolate weigh less and have smaller waists and BMIs that people who don't eat anything sweet. Awesome news. There was something at the bottom about moderation, exercise, blah, blah....all I am taking away from the article is that swedish fish make you skinny.

I knew I was onto something!

Do you like to use fruit for baking or cooking, or eat them plain?
I'm usually to lazy to do much with fruit other that cut it up and eat it plain or with yogurt, but I loved making this really simple dish. I think there are much better chances of me making a recipe if there aren't too many ingredients!

What are your thoughts on the study?
I think it's pretty interesting, but I assume some of those people exercise more? Are any of you out there NOT fans of sweets? (I'm looking at you, Emily!)

  1. The only fruit I really bake with is bananas because they go bad so fast in the summer, it's perfect for bread. Otherwise I just want to eat it all plain.

  2. What kind of freak of nature doesn't like sweets?! ;)

That peach treat looks gooooooood and hey, peaches are even healthy! Win-win.

I'm thinking part of the reason behind the findings of that study could be that people who restrict themselves from having treats & sweets are possibly over-compensating by eating too much of other things? Who knows, but I know that happens to *me* as soon as I deprive myself of something. No ice cream allowed? Okay well I will just have 3 peanut butter sandwiches instead and wash that down with a hunk of cheese as big as my head.

  6. Those peaches look so yummy! I can't wait to make them myself. And, I LOVE sweets - so I am really hoping the study is right! :)

  7. i love baking with fruit, but i also enjoy it raw as well.

I'm not a huge sweet person i'd much rather have chocolate or a butter-cream frosting than a sugary one

  8. That looks crazy delicious! My boss was just telling me how good peaches are right now too, so I'll have to give it a try!

Totally unrelated - I talked to the handful bra people at the Chicago RnR expo and they were totally honest with me and said if you are bigger than a B-cup that the bras are not supportive enough for running, but good for things like Yoga, etc. I was pretty happy they gave it to my straight like that!

  9. i've recently jumped on the frozen grapes train. I have been seriously missing out. It's like bite size slushies. It will be my new go to fruit snack :)

  10. those peaches look so incredibly delicious!

  11. I like fruit in baking and desserts but when a fruit is perfectly ripe and in season, I like it on its own (especially peaches...mmmmm)

As for sweets- my theory is that those who have sweets in moderation daily are less likely to binge on sweets or other things when they do give themselves "permission to indulge".

I'm jealous of your Georgia peaches!

  12. Omg I love swedish fish - another reason for me to eat more candy!

And that peach treat looks amazing! I have been wanting to make a peach dessert for a while but I just don't have enough time!

  13. I'm to o lazy to do anything with fruit as well. I kind of like it just the way it is! Those peaches sure look delicious though!

That study may be the best thing ever (after the first picture of you, obviously).

  14. Yum I love peaches! They are so sweet and delicious this year. And I totally agree with the study. Sweets are good for us. Infact if you go off of them completely and then slowly add them back in you will almost always gain weight. So why even cut them out in the first place right?

  15. Just downed a bag of swedish fish, since it'll help keep me thin. Justification = my BFF. I have peaches and greek yogurt, lucky me, for dinner, possibly.

  16. Oh yum looks so good!!! I have to make this but I do admit I might be too lazy!oops. Meanwhile I thought ice-cream but ypogurt would be good and better!

  17. Lol, thanks for the shoutout :-)

Yes, anyone who has ever read my blog knows I am not a big fan of sweets.

If that article is acurate that is bad news for me - good thing I started back with running today ;-)

I think the last time I cooked with fruit is back when I made breakfast calzones.

  18. Ooooohhhh perfect timing! We are relatively close to Georgia so we have lots of fruit carts around advertising fresh GA peaches!! Wwwwooooo!!

  19. Candy makes my teeth hurt, but I loooooove chocolate. :)

  20. I heard about that study on pawsitivelife.wordpress.com and my thoughts were that I think lIghter weight people may be more likely to "fess up" to eating candy than heavier individuals. I can't see a causation there. Also--> how do you like fitness?

  21. I think you can spin any angle on any study you want to nowadays, haha. But I still love me some candy!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh how I love swedish fish! And love your blog girl!

  23. I am going to have to try Swedish fish. It must be good because I see it everywhere.

  24. Your facial expressions are priceless! Thanks for sharing the recipe. Summer = fruit and lots of it!!!

  25. Ummm, AWESOME! If I ever questioned myself for eating chocolate, then now would be a good time to stop... Except I never question eating chocolate. Now I question how much can I get away with!?

    ReplyDelete
  26. well, I eat lots of sweets so I agree! Or at least hopefully all my candy will pay off in the end =) Anywhoo, that peach stuff looks delish. I love peaches.

  27. Those peaches look delish! I like roasting everything when I have time. I like pears with some sour cream and brown sugar on them- then roast them in the oven for a bit. Sounds weird, but they are yum! :)

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
