Soon We Will Be Three!

Some pretty major news happened the other day. Earth shattering stuff. I don't if my life will ever be the same. After long discussions and serious financial talks, hubby and I decided to take the next step in our married life together. Soon there will be a new addition to the family!

With all the extra space in our new house, it just seems too big for the two of us, and two little cats.

I only found out two days ago that it was official, so you are all the very first to hear the news!

I'm getting a treadmill!

Gosh, I hope that wasn't misleading at all. This is the next addition ordered on Sunday night, a NordicTrack Commercial 1750. Suggested by Kari! Hopefully I can start running as fast as her once I get it.

Isn't she beautiful? I just spent 30 minutes on hold trying to figure out when it would arrive. The answer is "probably two weeks or so." Super helpful. I'm too excited to wait for that long. Want. it. now.

We live so far from any gyms, and there is nowhere to run outside but trails. Which means no running in the dark, and I hate running in extreme heat/rain. Basically, I'm a wuss. So the treadmill is perfect! My plan is to stick it one of extra rooms, and make a mini "home gym" with a pilates mat, a few weights, etc. So--here's where I need your help. What piece of fitness equipment is the most important to you? What do you dream of owning? How would you decorate? Help people!

Do you have a treadmill? Have you used iFit? Any pointers?
iFit seems so cool but I'm sure it will take me 6 months to figure out and my husband about 3.2 seconds. So unfair.

What would you have in your dream home gym?
Can I pick a masseuse? Other than that, a treadmill, weight, a wall-mounted TV, a fan, a sound system, an elliptical, some weights, a pull-up bar...I could go on!

  1. I do have a treadmill but I am one of those that doesn't enjoy running on it. I've ran on it twice since getting it a month ago. Only when it got too late to run and it was storming out! I use Endomondo on my phone to track all my workouts.

  2. HAHAHAHAHAHA, you really had me going :-) I love my treaddie, got him (Freddie) in 2007 for training for the London MoonWalk marathon and it has paid off big time. We now have a multi gym and a few weights at home as well and hubby slapped his road bike on a turbo trainer a few years back .... so everything I need basically, just need to figure out how to turn my bath into a training pool ;-)

  3. YAY!! I want a treadmill so bad but my gym is literally 3 minutes away so I have no excuse. I can run there in 12 minutes flat. I still want one though...right by my bed so I can roll onto it as soon as I wake up and run!

  4. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA YES!!!!! What a beautiful addition to your family! Is this because of your "accident" the other day???? I have one at home and LOVE it. Especially in the winter. I'm looking to add a beautiful addition of my own- a TV. Congratulations on your bundle of joy!

  5. I have the Nordic track 9500 and I was so excited for ifit, but I'm too lazy to really figure out how to use it. Also, it seems to be down a lot. The google maps feature is really cool though and makes the time fly. Anyways congrats on you addition!

  6. Lovely addition to the family!

    A home gym... very nice.

Mine was great. I did aerobics in it so had a sprung floor so no pounding on concrete. I also had a tv/DVD player so I could do pre-recorded/purchased workouts or watch movies while I ran on the treadmill.

I also had a Reebok STEP which I loved cause I loved STEP aerobics at the time. And I had free weights and one of those one-piece home gyms... which I wouldn't recommend.

But a mat for yoga and Pilates would be good.

I don't use a fitness ball but if you do, of course you will have one to go there.

    So much fun planning...

  8. Congrats! Somehow I knew you were misleading us but I did have to second guess myself :-) My dream home gym would have one of those never ending pools that is like swimming laps but it provides a current for you to swim against!

  9. Haha! Loved the post :) Congrats on your new addition! :)

  10. Awesome news! I love the treadmill at my gym. I have a fav out of the 4 there. I'm also a woos and won't run Outside when it's dark, hot, Too cold, crowded, well pretty much all the time now. The tread is my BFF :)

  11. I am SO gullible! You TOTALLY had me going, so much so that I actually cringed when you said you found out two days ago and we were the first to know about it. Never do that to me again:)

  12. oh gosh you're a trickster...thought you were sharing some other life changing news!

congrats on your new baby mill waiting to be delivered by the treadmill stork!

  13. You def. had my going for real!! I dont have a treadmill but I sure do wish I had one!!!

    ReplyDelete
  14. Dang, I totally fell for it!

    Congrats on the new treadmill!

My dream gym would have a big open space to do yoga and a pull up bar.

No treadmill for me - I only enjoy running outside.

  15. You're so funny .... I thought you were getting a dog!

I've never even run on a treadmill. I think my dream home gym would have a swimming pool and some weight machines. But then a ton of open space for fun things like zumba and dancing around!

  16. I'd like to like you on FB - but sigh, I'm not hip and don't have FB . . . alas, I'm a looser!

Home gym - hmmm. . . . great question - but I'm a big fan of happy colors for the decorating part. You love jelly beans - how about a jelly bean dispenser on a stand staring at you while you're on the TM . . . one bean per mile?

Can't wait to hear what you decide and see pix. Congrats on your new addition! I'm sure you'll have many happy years together!

  17. I have to admit, I'm a little disappointed that it isn't a puppy. But a treadmill is great too!

I do have a treadmill but I don't use iFit. I'd like to add an eliptical to our home gym.

    ReplyDelete
  18. How exciting!!! I want you to do a post about how amazing it is the second you try it:)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Proud to say I didn't fall it. I was thinking either a treadmill or a dog :) Nonetheless, congrats!

  20. My sister has a treadmill because her streets are unsafe (no shoulder, no sidewalks) and she loves it!

    ReplyDelete
  21. ooh how exciting! yep, youre right, running 20 miles makes you a wuss in any book ;)

    ReplyDelete
  22. That's going to be a great addition to your family and your house. We have 3 spare bedrooms and one doubles as our Auburn room & gym. I have a treadmill and elliptical and there's nothing like having a treadmill on rainy, cold days. You're going to love it!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lucky you!! I told Craig if we move to the country we have to get a mill and a bike. I already have a good set of hand weights along with p90x videos.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I AM SO JEALOUS!!!!!! not that i love running on a treadmill or anything.. but to have the option, super cool. my dream gym would have treadmill, elliptical, flat screen, mounted speaker system (no headset needed woo) huge mirrors for weight lifting, and be painted some awesome color with girl handpainted patterns.. ahha

  25. I have to admit- I thought it might be a puppy too.

I don't have the space for a treadmill but if we did, we would definitely have one. All the snow and ice make for some tough winter running conditions. I'd love to have a treadmill for winter speedwork!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well you had me going for a sec! I actually thought maybe you were referring to the new house as three lol
Congrats on the new treadmill, it's beautiful!

    ReplyDelete
  27. We just added our new addition in February and we love our little bundle of...treadmill. :)

I really do contribute my awesome racing this year as I know I work harder on it and get more runs in than I would if I just went outside.

I am pretty sure you are gonna love it.

  28. I'm not allowed to have fancy electronics and I think a treadmill would fit into that category. My dream gym would have a pool (one that is both indoors and outdoors, because it is my dream) and a handful of personal trainers each with their own specialty to keep me on my toes.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Uhhhhh... what?! As I was reading, I was getting so excited for another addition to the mama runner clulb!! I am so mad at you.

    :)

    ReplyDelete
  30. lol I read the teaser in my follower area of blogger and was just like O_O OHMYGOSH

    totally misleading. :p

    but congrats nonetheless :))

    ReplyDelete
  31. She is beautiful! I think you should name her Satan's Sidewalk.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Ha ha, so misleading at first! You are one lucky girl!! That is my dream come true. Someday I know it will happen for me too. Someday. My dream exercise room sounds exactly like yours. For decorating I would put some awesome inspirational quotes up, race medals, pictures of favorite runners/marathons. Can't wait to see your room when it's all finished!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't have a treadmill, but I want one REALLY bad. Hopefully in the next year! Congrats on your new addition ;).
I would have a treadmill, elliptical, spin bike, free weights, TV w/ dvd player, fan... so many things. I dream.

    ReplyDelete
  34. You definitely had me going! Have you thought of names for the treadmill? I very fondly call any treadmill I use for a long period of time "Milltread" ... similar to Mildred. It's harder to get mad at or sick of it then.

    ReplyDelete
  35. You need a BIG TV in front of that thing. Mandatory!I love/hate the mill but could not live without the epic movie marathons while training!
BTW, Im reformatting my blog and would love to get some eyes on :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Nevermind, I know you come visit ;)

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hahaha! You seriously had me there for a minute!!! Funny!!!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Oh I'm so excited for your new addition. Congratulations. Do you know you are going to call your new bundle of joy?? I'm very jealous ... I would like a tready ... i can't quite con the husband ... I have a rower, and bike and an eliptical and i don't like them!! I know i would like a treadmil!!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ok, ok, ok... you had me going there. Treadmills at home rock. Congrats! :)

    My Life. I Guess.

  40. My treadmill and I have a deep committed relationship. I highly recommend getting rubber tiles to put underneath. You can just buy them online and they fit together like puzzle pieces and protect the floor. Plus, it's good for yoga too.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Congrats on the addition! I don't know if I'd be able to figure out how to even work it, it looks pretty amazing! Hopefully it gets to you super fast :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Nice addition the family! Life will be so much more easier for you now!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow, I was seriously concerned at first!! Congrats on your new baby!! :) I'm kind of really jealous!

    ReplyDelete
  44. That's awesome!!! I am soooo jealous, I would love to have a treadmill at home.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That is so exciting!! I wish I could have a treadmill at home! I would walk or run on it all of the time!!! I hate just sitting around watching TV or reading, lucky duck you are!!

I did however expect either dog or baby to come out there :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Hahahahahaha!!!!! You tricked me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yay for you girl!! I am so so jealous.

    ReplyDelete
  48. BHAHAHA. You're awesome!! I'm totally jealous!! There is no room for one of those in my house!!

PS- we need to have a GA get together someday!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Congrats on your new addition! I love having a treadmill, definitely gets me through the freezing cold, snowy, dark winters and the hot hot heat in the summers. In a perfect world I'd have an elliptical at home too so I could cross train.

    ReplyDelete
  50. You had me going for a second. ;)

    Congrats!!!

    ReplyDelete
  51. JJEEAALLOOUUSS!! Times a million. I want one too! But I can't think of another person who will enjoy it more than you... congrats!

  53. We're in the process of finishing our basement right now, basically for the sole purpose of getting a treadmill. I can't wait! I'll have to look into the 1750.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have never used the iFit function, just been running. I know. I need to make more use out of the features.
Now we just need to get you on twitter!!! ;)

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
