Foodie Survey--ABC's!

There's been a foodie survey circulating and I wanted to jump on board! I saw it on Hungry Meets Healthy most recently but I know it's been all over the place. Here you go!

A: is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?
Braeburn or Fuji apples. I can not STAND red delicious ones. Ugh. I must have had a bad one growing up because now I am so grossed out by them.
B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?
A toss up! Either a nice french baguette or a slice of really dense, hearty rye bread. EIther one with butter, please!
Wouldn't say no to some nice bread like this!

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!)
This changes often, but right now I'm all about Rice Chex. Not with milk, just dry as a snack.
D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?
I don't get crazy about donuts. They're good of course, but not my go to dessert. I can remember having an apple crumble donut once though that was amazing--warm apple pie filling inside!
E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?
Favorite way is to get fried eggs in a diner. Otherwise, boiled or poached is best!
F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?
Fat-Free Greek Yogurt is so delicious. I can't get enough of the stuff.

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?
Most of it from a combination of Bi-Lo, Wal Mart, or Food Lion. Some special stuff from Whole Foods.
H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?
Lately I've been on a hot tea kick. I drink black tea with a splash of milk. Must be the English in me coming out.
I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.
I prefer frozen yogurt, but ice-cream favorite would be mint chocolate chip. Toppings: colorful sprinkles and maraschino cherries!

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?
I love jelly! I eat PB&J way too often. I go for sugar free kinds if possible, and always strawberry.
K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product?
I have an actual problem with Kashi GoLean Crunch. If it's in my house, I eat it all. Just in handfuls, every time I walk past it. I have no problem finishing a box in 2 days. So it's my favorite, but I don't buy it!
L: is for Lunch, what was yours today?
Today's lunch was a spinach salad with mozzarella cheese, flax seeds, and balsamic vinaigrette. I had a slice of rice bread with Pb&J on the side, and a handful of grapes.

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?
Popcorn. Definitely. Bonus points if it's covered in peanut butter. Yum.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?
Well, I kinda gotta go for all three, right? I think taste wise carbs are my favorite.
O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?
Olive oil more than any other kind.
P: is for protein, how do you get yours?
Protein powder, greek yogurt, almonds, peanut butter, bars, some dairy and a little meat!
Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?
ANY WAY THEY COME. Seriously, love oats. Don't mind having oatmeal more than once a day even.

With chocolate protein powder, PB, flax, and strawberries!

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?
I can devour a whole tray of roasted broccoli. Yes please!
S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?
The most common one I eat is an open faced PB&J. I have the taste of a 6 year old.
T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?
I enjoy myself and eat the special things. I don't need to eat packaged cookies in Rome, but I do need to split tiramisu for dessert and have a gelato on a sunny afternoon.
U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?
I don't know--I don't think any of my combos are that weird! I dice pickles and put them on a salad with tuna--maybe that?
V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?
Gummy multivitamins every morning and a calcium chew.
W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?
Nay. Way way too spicy for me.
X: is for XC Foodie, why is she so awesome?
I feel like this has something to do with whoever started the survey--so if that's who XC foodie is, she's super awesome!
Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?
Ice cream sundaes! We used to each have our own special sundae glasses and I would make every person in my family their own special one with toppings.

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?
Stir fried with tomato sauce and a fried egg in the pan--holy cow it's seriously good, you have to try it!

I've answered my share of questions: now you answer one of the above questions!

  1. N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?

I'm with you on the CARBS! I will take anything. Oats, bread, pitas, fruit, veggies, candy, cereal...

If we could survive on carbs alone, I would totally do it!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful...

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou...

Chobani Review and Giveaway!

I'm pretty sure it's not a secret that me and Greek yogurt are in a serious relationship. I know, I know...hubby can read this. But he's well aware of the affair. At least once a day I need my fix. Sometimes it's a mid-morning snack with fruit, or a lunchtime topper for baked potatoes. Other times it's the sweet dessert topped with fruit and chocolate shavings that completes my night. Plain, vanilla, fruity...I could wax poetic about the stuff for ages. Don't worry, I won't. What I will say is that as much as I love Greek yogurt, I figured it was all the same. I saved a little money (18 cents on each container at my local store) in order to get the cheaper no-name brand. Then Chobani was on sale, so I picked up a few. Um, this stuff is THICK! So much creamier and thicker - and tastier - than any other brand I've tried. Sorry, extra 18 cents. You are now being diverted to my Chobani fund. I won a Chobani giveaway a couple of weeks ago hosted by ...
