Foodie Survey--ABC's!

There's been a foodie survey circulating and I wanted to jump on board! I saw it on Hungry Meets Healthy most recently but I know it's been all over the place. Here you go!

A: is for Apple, what’s your favorite variety?
Braeburn or Fuji apples. I can not STAND red delicious ones. Ugh. I must have had a bad one growing up because now I am so grossed out by them.
B: is for Bread, regardless of nutrition, calories, or whole grains what is your favorite type to have a nice big piece of?
A toss up! Either a nice french baguette or a slice of really dense, hearty rye bread. EIther one with butter, please!
Wouldn't say no to some nice bread like this!

C: is for Cereal what is your favorite kind currently (just one!)
This changes often, but right now I'm all about Rice Chex. Not with milk, just dry as a snack.
D: is for Doughnuts, you might not currently be eating them but what kind do you fancy?
I don't get crazy about donuts. They're good of course, but not my go to dessert. I can remember having an apple crumble donut once though that was amazing--warm apple pie filling inside!
E: is for Eggs, how would you like yours prepared?
Favorite way is to get fried eggs in a diner. Otherwise, boiled or poached is best!
F: is for Fat Free, what is your favorite fat free product?
Fat-Free Greek Yogurt is so delicious. I can't get enough of the stuff.

G: is for Groceries, where do you purchase yours at?
Most of it from a combination of Bi-Lo, Wal Mart, or Food Lion. Some special stuff from Whole Foods.
H: is for Hot Beverages, what is your favorite hot drink?
Lately I've been on a hot tea kick. I drink black tea with a splash of milk. Must be the English in me coming out.
I: is for Ice Cream, pick a favorite flavor and add a fun topping.
I prefer frozen yogurt, but ice-cream favorite would be mint chocolate chip. Toppings: colorful sprinkles and maraschino cherries!

J: is for Jams or Jellies, do you eat them, and if so what kind and flavor?
I love jelly! I eat PB&J way too often. I go for sugar free kinds if possible, and always strawberry.
K: is for Kashi, name your favorite Kashi product?
I have an actual problem with Kashi GoLean Crunch. If it's in my house, I eat it all. Just in handfuls, every time I walk past it. I have no problem finishing a box in 2 days. So it's my favorite, but I don't buy it!
L: is for Lunch, what was yours today?
Today's lunch was a spinach salad with mozzarella cheese, flax seeds, and balsamic vinaigrette. I had a slice of rice bread with Pb&J on the side, and a handful of grapes.

M: is for microwave, what is your favorite microwave meal/snack?
Popcorn. Definitely. Bonus points if it's covered in peanut butter. Yum.

N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?
Well, I kinda gotta go for all three, right? I think taste wise carbs are my favorite.
O: is for oil, what kind do you like to use?
Olive oil more than any other kind.
P: is for protein, how do you get yours?
Protein powder, greek yogurt, almonds, peanut butter, bars, some dairy and a little meat!
Q: is for Quaker, how do you like your oats?
ANY WAY THEY COME. Seriously, love oats. Don't mind having oatmeal more than once a day even.

With chocolate protein powder, PB, flax, and strawberries!

R: is for roasting, what is your favorite thing to roast?
I can devour a whole tray of roasted broccoli. Yes please!
S: is for sandwich, what’s your favorite kind?
The most common one I eat is an open faced PB&J. I have the taste of a 6 year old.
T: is for travel, how do you handle eating while traveling?
I enjoy myself and eat the special things. I don't need to eat packaged cookies in Rome, but I do need to split tiramisu for dessert and have a gelato on a sunny afternoon.
U: is for unique, what is one of your weirdest food combos?
I don't know--I don't think any of my combos are that weird! I dice pickles and put them on a salad with tuna--maybe that?
V: is for vitamins, what kind do you take?
Gummy multivitamins every morning and a calcium chew.
W: is for wasabi, yay or nay?
Nay. Way way too spicy for me.
X: is for XC Foodie, why is she so awesome?
I feel like this has something to do with whoever started the survey--so if that's who XC foodie is, she's super awesome!
Y: is for youth, what food reminds you of your childhood?
Ice cream sundaes! We used to each have our own special sundae glasses and I would make every person in my family their own special one with toppings.

Z: is for zucchini, how do you prepare it?
Stir fried with tomato sauce and a fried egg in the pan--holy cow it's seriously good, you have to try it!

I've answered my share of questions: now you answer one of the above questions!

  1. N: is for nutrients, do you likes carbs, fats, or proteins best?

I'm with you on the CARBS! I will take anything. Oats, bread, pitas, fruit, veggies, candy, cereal...

If we could survive on carbs alone, I would totally do it!

  2. Fun! I too think I had some nasty red delicious apples in younger years because I'll never go near them now. Viva la Braeburn!

  3. ice cream sundaes!!! yum!

my dad's waffles remind me of my childhood...he would pile them high with powdered sugar, syrup, and lots of other sugary goodness :)

  4. I am totally with you on the oats! I am eating oatmeal RIGHT NOW!

  5. Fun survey! I am not a huge fan of the oats - I OD'd on them when I was nursing because they do wonders for your milk supply! Sorry, probably TMI for all you non-mamas.. :)

  6. yummy the ice -cream looks good, great post :)

  7. Love this survey! I've been really into peanut butter sandwiches lately but trying to use real-fruit toppings. I'm still working out the kinks, but I'll probably post about it soon.

  8. Hehe I love gummy vites! =) They're one of the best parts of my day -- always flash me back to being a kid :)

  9. Cute post. I am not a fan of red delicious apples either.

  10. I've been eating that exact same brand/flavor of yogurt lately too!

I've been mixing it with all the fresh strawberries in season right now :)

  11. I love this! I might have to steal it from you (borrow?) and do it myself. PB&J sandwiches are fantastic but I've never had one open faced... It makes me think of PB&Fluff from the good old days :)

  12. sooo fun! i always love these kinds of things and learning random food type trivia about people. :) i'll take B. bready products in pretty much any form make my tummy happy! i think my favorites would have to be suuper doughy pizza crusts, breadsticks, and i also like rye.

  13. growing up my mom would spread frosting in between two graham cracker squares (think cream cheese or chocolate frosting) and then refrigerate them for us to eat when we got home from school. even though i resent the fact that i have a true addiction to sugar STILL as a grown woman, they were so good and (maybe) worth it! lol

  14. This is a great survey; me next! lol

You should try coconut oil :) it is amazingggg

  15. Love it, may have to steal it!

  16. U is for Unique-egg whites and cottage cheese with jelly!!

  17. We use olive oil. We ran out last week and used vegetable oil on our salads mixed with the vinegar, and it just didn't taste right. We have two more fresh bottles, and my salads await!

  18. Fun!

E: is for Eggs, how would you like your prepared?

Baked in a cake! ;) Otherwise, I don't eat eggs. I know, I am a freak among my peers...

Are You a Salty Sweater? The Truth About Sodium and Running

Before I started running regularly, I did my best to avoid salt. After all, if you want to lose weight you're supposed to reduce sodium, right? Here's what the American Federal Government's recommendations for sodium intake (as of January 2011)

-if you're 51+ years old, black, have hypertension, kidney disease or diabetes, you get 1,500 mg. each day
-if you're a healthy adult, you get 2,300 mg. per day. A teaspoon.

Now most of the time, I don't have an issue with this. Salt isn't used too much in my cooking, and I avoid a lot of common processed foods filled with sodium. When I do indulge in a salty meal, usually from a restaurant, I get the associated water weight gain and bloating. So I'm happy to stick to my meeting my 2,300 mg. requirements each day.

And then...summer arrives. If you're running in high humidity, you sweat. A lot. It's not pretty, and you're draining your body of electrolytes like sodium. On my long runs, I take precauti…

DIY Treadmill Desk

Working from home has its perks. Sure, my social interaction skills are deteriorating rapidly and casual dress Fridays now include those old ratty boxers and that one race shirt with the hole, but I also get to enjoy things like eating lunch at 10:30 because I feel like it and deciding where I want to work. Like on the treadmill.

Between working at my desk all day, using my computer for fun and then sitting on the couch watching television most nights for an hour or two, it's safe to say I sit on my ass a lot. And yep, that's not so great for you. Even though I work out 6 days a week, I hate that I spend easily 75% of my waking hours sitting.

On a whim, I asked Tim if he could build me a treadmill desk. I've seen these massive contraptions to make treadmill desks, but they basically transform it into a full-time desk, and I still want to use my treadmill for running (sans desk) as well. Magic carpenter man took a few measurements and brought me in a prototype by lunchtime.…

I Wanna Play! My 7 Links

I've been loving the "7 Links" Posts circulating the blogging world lately, so when I was tagged by Holly at Rust Belt Runner I couldn't wait to participate. Without further ado, here are my Seven Links...

Most Popular Post: Aside from giveaways (and we know why those are popular), one of my most read and commented on post was about my Weight Loss Journey. It got so much attention, it deserved it's own little tab at the top of my page!

Most Controversial Post: My post Good Person > Good Racer was possibly the most controversial. I talked about my own experience racing with my husband, and whether or not it is racer etiquette (or just plain rude) to pass someone when you planned on running together. Lots of differing options in this area!

Most Helpful Post: One of my earlier posts was titled What's Worth It, and recapped some running extras and whether or not they're beneficial. I go so much great feedback on products like foam rollers, compression sock…
