10 Miles and Jawbreaker Instructions

Life got in the way of my long run this morning, and then it was really too hot to start a run outside. So instead I headed to the gym to hop on the treadmill instead. I have 2 weeks left of my gym membership and I will admit I'm a little worried about what I'll do when it runs out! Most of my runs I'll happily do outside, but with heats and storms it can be a difficult to plan them. Luckily I managed to crank out 10 miles today, and I feel good!

After all the refueling with "actual" food, I knew I needed a little sugar in my life. I picked up a bag of jawbreakers from Walgreens and can I say it was love at first bite. Well, suck. Everyone knows you can't chew a jawbreaker until you get to the middle. It's the rule!!

I don't think anyone looks to me for fashion advice (and if you do, STOP) and today was no exception. I bought a t-shirt while I was in Walgreens from the children's section. It was only a dollar, and the extra large kiddies size was perfect! I'll spare you a picture because if you can believe it, I'm looking even more rough than yesterday morning. Yikes.

I got an amazing package in the mail today from Holly over at Rust Belt Runner.  I won her giveaway and got 3 packets of Chocolate #9 energy gel. I'll let you know what I think about them once I've tried them, but they sound so interesting. Agave sweetened, vegan, low GI, and full of Belgian dark chocolate? Um, yes! Thanks again Holly!

Also, apparently if you type into Google, "I want to be a little runner but I eat so much" you'll find my blog. Not sure whether to be excited about that or not. Thanks Google Stats!

What's the most exciting thing to happen to you this weekend?
Hmm...so far I think it was getting the package from Holly! And running those 10 miles felt pretty great too. Longest run since the half marathon!

Ok, serious question time. Do you crunch jawbreakers?
I guess I'm a little guilty here. But I always wait until the very very end when it's tiny! I hate when people crunch them right in the beginning. Amateurs.

**If you haven't entered my giveaway yet for free Gotein protein powder, hurry! It ends Sunday night!**

  1. The most exciting thing this weekend was winning first place in my age group at my two mile race this morning! And that was after a day full of partying and drinking to celebrate the end of the school year yesterday!

I love jawbreakers. No, I don't crunch them until the end. That could break a tooth! I love any hard candy I can suck on and then crunch at the end.

  4. I found vegan froyo this weekend!!!!!!!!! Best thing ever! Posting about it tomorrow!

Don;t really eat jawbreakers but I am an amateur with most hard candy. I like to bite things right away, even lollipops. So bad. it disappears within like 15 seconds but I can't help it. Bad habit.

  5. I didn't even know they still made jaw breakers!! And I didn't want to say anything the other day....but I spend hours trying to get as much volume in my hair as you had in your hair yesterday morning. Lucky Lucky!

  6. Great job on your long run! I'm sure you'll still do great when your gym membership expires. Jawbreakers are so good, but I admit, that I chew them!

  9. I can't stand to eat jawbreakers because I have no patience, I just want to chew them up. Most exciting thing is getting a new camera finally, I have been without on all week!

  10. Hmmm...I guess the most exciting part of the weekend so far is making homemade pizza's with the in-laws :) And I don't eat jaw breakers too much but when I do I have to fight the urge to bite into them!!

  11. Haha! I buy things from the children's section too! I actually have a couple of kids jackets and fleeces. They fit and they're usually way cheaper than the adult sizes!

The most exciting thing for me this weekend was I went shopping and got pedicures with my mom yesterday :)

  12. I checked my google stats yesterday and the funniest one that I got from someone that came to my blog was "female track runners butt" I don't think they got what they were looking for at my sight but oh well!

Definitely let us all know how that stuff is. It looks really yummy!!!! Great run too! I did 10 yesterday as well :)

  13. I have NO patience and I always crunch jawbreakers and tootsie pops! I'm so impressed you can handle 10 miles on the treadmill. I'm a slave to the weather because treadmill boredom kills me. I'm pretty sure I never really do anything illegal either, and accidentally bumping into someone while swimming isn't against the law last I checked, but I'm so paranoid around the arm of the law!

  14. Sorry I don't eat them, I don't even let my kids eat them! LOL!! I think they would break my teeth if I bit into it!

  15. I love jawbreakers!! I am guilty as charged, I chew all candy you are supposed to wait to chew - I joke that I have a teething problem at 24, totally healthy...

Great run! I am on rest day #3 due to iclimant weather and not being close to home/gym...woopsie! A little jealous of the mileage :) But bet it felt great!

  16. I can't run on a treadmill. They make me very nauseous. Yet I can use any other machine at the gym. I can barely last one mile on the mill, I couldn't imagine 10!!

  17. All this talk of Jawbreakers is reminding me about my dentist appointment tomorrow! Ack!

  18. haha, that's kind of a random google trend for you blog! but hey, if it gets people to here so be it. :)

ack, i have no idea how you are able to live, let alone run over there in that crazy hot state! i'd def be rocking the tread too! :)

u spread the jawbreaker rule, but now u must answer how many licks it takes to get the center of a tootsie pop. ;)

  19. I try to wait until the end to chomp on the jawbreaker. My cubemate at work would chew on the ENTIRE time (and she loved her jawbreakers). SO ANNOYING.

Most exciting thing this weekend -- probably my 10 miles too - oh, and 2 kid birthday parties yesterday. I know you are SO jealous. Haha.

  20. Hey my gym pass has ended too and I decided not to renew it. I also have the same problem with the heat and running! I just ordered a bunch of workout dvd's from Amazon, and I'm hoping they'll be a good replacement for the gym and the days I can't make myself run in the heat. Sounds like we're in the same boat when it comes to exercising. My weekend long run was 10 miles as well. The most exciting thing that happened to me this weekend was finishing day 30 of Jillian Michaels 30 day shred, and taking my 2-year-old to Kung Fu Panda 2!

  21. I think I'm going to cancel my gym membership too. I never go and why am I paying to keep the lights on. Of course I'll be kicking myself come November. Most exciting item of the weekend? We put an offer in on a house! AHHHH We should know if it was accepted tomorrow.

  23. I love Gobstoppers which are like Jawbreakers twin...so yes!
I had an amazing date last night, I think I have found a keeper!
I did a little recap on my blog which is the first time I have ever referenced my dating life lol but I have a good feeling he is going to be around for awhile!

  24. Ahhh I totally crunch them. My teeth hate me... and for good reason, obviously!

  25. Arg - I don't eat candy either, so I can't play this crunching jawbreaker came. :(

This weekend my craziest moment was seeing probably 50+ naked bicyclists in downtown Portland!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
