After my last race, I contemplated running in a costume for the sheer simplicity of finding myself in race photos. Looking for yourself among 700 other women with ponytails and blue running tops is hard when you're dressed the same way as everyone else. SUPER easy if you're the one wearing the giant banana costume. So I asked you guys to send me some photos of you in costumes during a race and I loved what I got! Check out these hilarious outfits worn during a race:
That ridiculously awesome M&M is Marlene from Mission to a(nother) Marathon. She ran like this for a whole 10 miles--and passed out M&M's on the way! My new hero.
So this may not be a real magazine, but Danielle is seriously worthy of any cover. This is her at a St. Patricks Day race, getting into the spirit! She's run a 5k in 22:25 and is signed up for an October Marathon. Check her out at Happy, Healthy, and Strong.
When I read about Kim running in ruffle panties for the OskKosh Half Marathon, I was prepared to laugh. She braved some tough weather with an amazing attitude and some cute underwear!!! Read about more of her races at Life in the Twin Lane.
Last, but certainly not least is Katherine from Forward Foot Strides. Holy Cow! Her costume is beyond great. Here is she dressed up for a Halloween run. Bonus points for a running/sleeping picture!
Has anyone else raced in costume?
If the logistics of actually running in a costume weren't the problem, what would be your dream get-up?
Obviously I want to dress up as the female Where's Waldo, but second to that I would love to dress up in a princess costume. I don't even really need a race, I just really want to dress up like a princess!
Great post and what a good idea to get a photo took in a race ,love this idea :)
ReplyDeleteI'm actually on the lookout for a fluorescent yellow running shirt for the sole reason of being more visible at races. I ran right by my husband last week and he didn't see me so I've decided I need to find a brighter shirt.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to race in costume one of these days! My favorite costumes I've seen are the one's from the Disney Marathon! I'm such a princess, lol.
ReplyDeleteAh this is making me want to a race so bad! I have only run in one race, and I did not wear a costume. Actually, I don't think anyone at that 5k did. But that looks like it would be so fun!
ReplyDeletelove costume runs!!! they are so fun. the halloween one I did this past year was the best. it was my first half so I did not really go all out but I would love to dress up as a movie character of some sort this year :)
ReplyDeleteI've never run in a costume, but I've been wanting to run dressed like a princess for a while now! IF I ever do the Disney Marathon, I might just have to find a tutu....:)
ReplyDeleteI would be so stoked to be getting M&Ms! Not sure what I would go as if I ran in costume.... sooo many choices.
ReplyDeleteSeeing everyone's costumes are so great! I almost laughed at loud at your "Super easy if you're the one wearing the giant banana costume..."
ReplyDeleteI love seeing people in costume during a race!
ReplyDeleteThe Disney races have the MOST creative people and they win hands down. Wine & Dine was my first race and me/my friend posed with this guy dressed up like Alan from The Hangover (baby included). There were also tons of people dressed up like grapes and bottles of wine (as well as numerous Disney characters). My hubby and I are planning on running the relay together this year and there might be costumes involved. He might not know about it yet either. Hee.
Fun post - great pics. Thanks for the giggles.
ReplyDeletehaha! So much fun- I love it :) The M&M is great! I have never worn a costume but would love to! I'd like to run Disney some day in a tutu!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the pictures!! I've never raced in costume but love seeing people who do during races. It makes the races more fun!
ReplyDeleteI am actually in brainstorm mode for my dirty dash- I am thinking that my team will run as pirates. Basically I will make us pirate like wrap skirts for over our running shorts. Arrrrrrrrrr.
ReplyDeleteHa! Those are pretty good :). I've never run in costume. I have enough trouble in regular clothes!
ReplyDeleteHey, that's me! :) So fun - love the other costumes too! I totally plan to do it again this year. You get so many compliments from spectators, volunteers and other runners. Makes it all even more fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a post! Cute costumes.
ReplyDeleteI always like to wear something bright colored :)
I love wearing fun costumes or getups. My favorite has been Elmo - every kid went crazy for me along the route! I've also done Batgirl, a Christmas Elf and some goofy getups for St. Patty's. It all makes running races more fun!
ReplyDeleteThose are fabulous! I dressed as a hula dancer- coco nut bra (over my sports bra) and grass skirt for a muddy buddy. Um yeah biking and grass skirt dont mix. Although it was easy to spot my bike because it had matching leis as me, crawling through the mud with this getup was silly :) I'll find the pic and send it to you :)
ReplyDeleteI did a race on Halloween weekend last year and my friend and I were gonna dress up but then we waited too long and couldn't find a cheap costume. But when we got to the race, no one was dressed up so we didn't feel that bad! lol
ReplyDeleteI think I'd go 80's style. I'm thinking the "let's get physical" music video get-up
ReplyDeleteHAHA - I have been away for a couple of days, and out of touch - but just getting to blog catch-up - great pics and thanks for the shout out! I think I need to work on smiling instead of wincing though :)
ReplyDeleteI agree with Running Ricig - the 80's style is fun and functional for a race...love neon, headbands and cut off shirts!
That's my Kimmy in the ruffle bums! What a great idea we had for that race!
ReplyDeleteHA!! The Warrior Dash was probably 50% costumes, I dont do the costume thing, I have no creativity
ReplyDeleteI ran in my bloody Alice in Wonderland costume last October. It was so much fun - mostly fun to see the photos after. I was pretty good until the last mile or less of the race. I warmed up and the costume was NOT breathable at all.
ReplyDeleteStay tuned ... Rose and I should be looking pretty darn interesting at the Disneyland 5K this year. We are just walking it, so our costumes are not going to be what one would normally think to wear in a race!
you could have worn a banana costume to make the run easier! =)
