Our Mammoth Day Part #2--The Big Surprise!

If you've already ready the first part of the mammoth day, then here's the rest of the story. So where were we? Oh, right.
Fro-yo in hand, hubs and I are trying to figure out what's going on in downtown Chattanooga that's causing roads to close, people to scream, and parades to happen. American Idol, that's what. Apparently, one of the top 3 contestants on American Idol, Lauren Alaina, is from nearby. All the commotion was because she was back in town, Fox camera crew by her side, to perform. Even though I haven't caught an episode in a while it was all pretty exciting and I got caught up in it!

This may be as close as I get to anyone famous so I needed to enjoy it! The weather was gorgeous, Lauren sang, and I was a happy camper. I was also pretty full from the 5 pounds of fro-yo in my belly. A walk along the river was the perfect solution.

This particular park had some funky attractions. Really. Just ask my husband, the talented drum player:

He can play upside-down pots like nobody's business. I couldn't resist posing with "Blue Boy" the giant blue rhino. Could you?

I wanted to drive home in one of these cars but I guess they're not allowed on the interstate? Weird.

After a crazy day I was in the mood for some quick and easy food, and this really hit the spot: corn tortillas with baby spinach, mozzarella cheese, corn, and salsa. Microwaved for a minute so it was all melty and gooey, perfect!

Have you ever met anyone famous?
You mean standing really really far away from an American Idol contestant doesn't count? Fine. My stepmom used to work in a salon in a really high-class hotel in Hawaii and celebrities would come in all the time. I got to meet David Boreanz (Buffy/Angel) and when he left I kept the ketchup and mustard containers he left behind. For years.

Do you watch American Idol?
Sometimes I do, every couple of seasons I'll get really into it. This round, not so much. But I'll watch this week because I could be in the background, woo-hoo!

  1. I've been watching American Idol so I would have been super excited to hear her sing! I've never "met" anyone famous, but I shared an elevator with Chris Brown and Rihanna in LA and I sold shoes to Keri Russell and Skeet Ulrich when they were in Calgary filming a movie together. Believe it or not, Keri was 18,000 times more beautiful in person than she is on TV!

  2. Those corn tortilla creations look yummy, I'm going to have to try that.

That's exciting that you saw an american idol performance! I haven't kept up with the show because I have an annoying rotating work schedule, so I'm often working when regular shows are on and can't ever keep up.

An no, I certainly couldn't resist posing with the giant blue bull!

  5. I met a really, really famous movie start when I worked at the UCLA Medical Center, but I can't say his name. I know, no fun!

David Boreanz is super, super hot, but after he cheated on his wife he got a little uglier.

You should have take a picture with you riding the Blue Bull :)

  6. You can never have too much Fro-Yo! Looks like you guys are having a blast in Mammoth and I need to find myself a set of public upside down pots! It's a pleasure to follow my first follower and looking forward to your posts! :)

That easy dinner looks awesome. Do you just randomly come up with these great ideas?

  11. A long time ago I worked in Customer Service at a Major Credit Card Company. Suckiest job ever and I give props to anyone that works in CS but anyway one day Leonardo DiCaprio's assistant called about his card! Thats kind of like meeting a celebrity. Oh and me and two of the girls that I work now think we are the funniest people on earth so call ourselves celebrities. Does that count too? HAHA!

  12. hahaha that's hilarious about the ketchup & mustard containers! LOL!

I used to work at a high-end hotel in Connecticut and I got to check in all the Celtics (at the time...the only one who's still on the team is Paul Pierce) so that was awesome!! I was shaking haha.

  16. I've watched maybe one episode of American Idol. I'm not into the reality show compitions like that (outside of The Biggest Loser). Plus I'm not a fan of 99% of the music they feature on the show. But it's still fun to know that there have been a few finalists from my area on the show!

  17. That's awesome! I don't watch American Idol (except sometimes to watch the first few humiliation episodes). Very cool.

  20. I used to live in Santa Monica so I saw famous peeps all the time. My favorite sitings were Jessica Alba, Reese Witherspoon (they're both TINY in person), and Dylan McDermott (so HOT!).

Nope. Not an America Idol fan. But the Bachelor?? Count me in!

  21. I don't watch American Idol. I think I saw one season, but it got old for me. I like crime shows. :-)

I had a drink with Leonardo diCaprio once. Many, many years ago.

  22. Dude I loved David Boreanaz on Buffy and now on Bones. I would have kept those containers too. LOL I have mostly spotted people, but I did go see Ryan Gosling's band in CA and holy cow he was so close to me for three hours and somehow I resisted the urge to molest him. My mom was super disappointed that I did not spot any celebs when I went to NYC... she didn't get that you just don't make a lot of eye contact on the streets.

  23. I haven't really "met" anyone famous...but I did sit next to Zack Galifianakis (from the Hangover) during the Toronto Film Festival! Couldn't really talk to him but he maintained his funniness and definitely entertained the audience.

And no, I stopped watching Idol several seasons back. I have no time for TV anymore! Glee doesn't count.

  24. I quit watching Idol several years ago. I love the blue rhino on wheel. As far as famous people hmmm I met Joan Benoit Samuelson, and Meg Ryan once in MT.

  25. David Boreanz?! I would have died!! I've never really met anyone famous, but I'm sure if I ran into him, I wouldn't know what to do with myself.

I did watch American Idol for the first few seasons, but then it got kind of boring for me.

  26. i once gave johnny mosley, a pro skier a shoulder massage. random story. but i think that counts!

  27. I used to watch Idol all the time and write a live blog during the episode. But after Adam Lambert's season I totally lost interest. This year I turn it on but only listen while doing other things.

I can't even list the famous people I've met. Working in Disney World at a popular attraction, I had my fair share of them come through. I can say that Lindsay Lohan was a nightmare even in 2001! And Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is AWESOME!! Also a favorite was Katey Sagal from Married with Children. By far my favorite is Samantha Brown from the Travel Channel. I just adore her!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
