Last night was the 4th of July fireworks display in our little Georgian town. We brought our cooler, met up with some friends, and watched the sun go down while a country band played in the background. Quaint, it most certainly was.
I got distracted during dinner but remembered to whip out my camera while the watermelon was being devoured for dessert. I ask hubs to smile for the camera.

What does he do? Smiles for the camera. Doesn't pose, doesn't make weird faces: he just acts normal. What do I do when he has the camera?
I close my eyes mid-shot.....
...and then compensate for closed eyes by posing in the strangest way possible.
He eventually gave up and decided the watermelon made a better subject.
Totally don't blame him.
Despite some lingering worries, we were not driven out of town by anti-British chants on the 4th of July. Hooray for that! There was a lot of red/white/blue clothing action going on so there could be no doubt of our patriotism.
I celebrated our country's independence today by exercising my freedom to sleep in until 9. That's the latest I've slept in for months, and it was fantastic! I foresee a lazy afternoon and a quick dip in the lake to cool off in my near future.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Last chance to enter my BumbleBar GIVEAWAY--it ends tonight!
How are you celebrating this weekend?
Fireworks last night, lake this afternoon, and maybe even a hike tomorrow! Nice and relaxing weekend.
Are you a late sleeper when you get the chance? Latest you've ever slept in?
Not lately--I prefer to be up and productive in the mornings if I can. BUT--I've definitely had some days where I have slept in until 2 or 3 in the afternoon in the past---YIKES!
What food says summer/holiday/barbecue to you?
It has to be corn on the cob or watermelon. They're just so perfect on a hot day outside!
ha ha love it! I am totally the same way with pictures, always making an akward face. I love you shirt!
ReplyDeleteI hardly ever sleep in but whenever I do I always feel more tired. Hate that! And favorite summer food is corn on the cob. :) Happy 4th of July!!
I love the pictures!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could get myself to sleep late. I usually get up before 7 on the weekends but sometimes make up for it with a nap in the afternoon.
We are boiling crabs today for lunch. Enjoy your weekend!
I think I've missed something. Are you British?
ReplyDeleteCorn and ribs on the bbq - heck yes! And fruit salad, too!
ReplyDeleteFor the 4th, I'm running a 5k and then probably just hanging out with the boy eating food and maybe some fireworks
I can sleep in during the summer but that's because I get so caught up in reading the night before!
ReplyDeleteWhy ARE we so terrible at looking normal in pictures??
ReplyDeleteFor me, marshmallows are a summer/ holiday/BBQ food. Mmmm, s'mores...
Ha, love the pics...no matter the NORMAL pose or not!!!
ReplyDeleteWe will be at big 4th party at in-laws...the boys can't wait and neither can we :)
I don't know about you, but I know I never look right in pictures of me. So I play it up and purposely look bad in them. One of the best pictures of me was from a wedding I was in. The bride and I spent so much time laughing at how boring picture taking is, that we couldn't stop laughing for the actual picture. So we both look so genuinely happy in the picture that it looks amazing.
ReplyDeleteI headed to store for watermelon asap! Mmmmm! And that is totally my friends and i's thing... Act like a freak when camera pointed are way... The are just boring with their normal smiles :)
ReplyDeletei make the same faces. Seems normal to me, haha!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your american holiday!
Happy Independence Day!!!! Hope the concert is a LOT of fun!!!
ReplyDeleteOh TOTALLY corn on the cob. The worst summers of my life were between grades 6-8 when I had braces and couldn't eat it!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE YOUR FACE!!!! Closed eyes and all:) Now I am craving watermelon! I am so happy that you slept in, you deserve it! We are celebrating with lots of food, fireworks and being lazy:)
ReplyDeleteLooks like you guys are really having fun! I love a relaxing holiday weekend! Ours has been really relaxing so far, too. Tomorrow is busy, though, with a race in the morning and a bbq in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteI felt like I slept in this morning, even though it was only 7 or so. I've lost the ability to sleep much later than that. I'm totally up for an afternoon nap, though!
I am very jealous of that watermelon, that look soooo good. We have not had any good watermelon here in Colorado all summer, but fruit doesn't grow well here :(. Looks like a blast with the hubby :)...we did a little fireworks in our neighborhood tonight, which we do every year the day before the 4th and usually the cops come out and break it up. This year we got lucky and no cops :).
ReplyDeleteThis is the like the 8th blog post tonight I've seen watermelon in... biggest craving ever all of a sudden!! It totally says "picnic" to me!
ReplyDeleteCorn on the cob in the summer is my all time favorite.
