The Difference Between Men and Women: Photo Edition

Last night was the 4th of July fireworks display in our little Georgian town. We brought our cooler, met up with some friends, and watched the sun go down while a country band played in the background. Quaint, it most certainly was.

I got distracted during dinner but remembered to whip out my camera while the watermelon was being devoured for dessert. I ask hubs to smile for the camera.

What does he do? Smiles for the camera. Doesn't pose, doesn't make weird faces: he just acts normal. What do I do when he has the camera?

I close my eyes mid-shot.....

...and then compensate for closed eyes by posing in the strangest way possible.

He eventually gave up and decided the watermelon made a better subject.
Totally don't blame him.

Despite some lingering worries, we were not driven out of town by anti-British chants on the 4th of July. Hooray for that! There was a lot of red/white/blue clothing action going on so there could be no doubt of our patriotism.

I celebrated our country's independence today by exercising my freedom to sleep in until 9. That's the latest I've slept in for months, and it was fantastic! I foresee a lazy afternoon and a quick dip in the lake to cool off in my near future.

Hope everyone is having a great weekend! Last chance to enter my BumbleBar GIVEAWAY--it ends tonight!

How are you celebrating this weekend?
Fireworks last night, lake this afternoon, and maybe even a hike tomorrow! Nice and relaxing weekend.

Are you a late sleeper when you get the chance? Latest you've ever slept in?
Not lately--I prefer to be up and productive in the mornings if I can. BUT--I've definitely had some days where I have slept in until 2 or 3 in the afternoon in the past---YIKES!

What food says summer/holiday/barbecue to you?
It has to be corn on the cob or watermelon. They're just so perfect on a hot day outside!

  1. ha ha love it! I am totally the same way with pictures, always making an akward face. I love you shirt!

I hardly ever sleep in but whenever I do I always feel more tired. Hate that! And favorite summer food is corn on the cob. :) Happy 4th of July!!

  2. I love the pictures!
I wish I could get myself to sleep late. I usually get up before 7 on the weekends but sometimes make up for it with a nap in the afternoon.

We are boiling crabs today for lunch. Enjoy your weekend!

  3. I think I've missed something. Are you British?

  4. Corn and ribs on the bbq - heck yes! And fruit salad, too!

For the 4th, I'm running a 5k and then probably just hanging out with the boy eating food and maybe some fireworks

  5. I can sleep in during the summer but that's because I get so caught up in reading the night before!

  6. Why ARE we so terrible at looking normal in pictures??

For me, marshmallows are a summer/ holiday/BBQ food. Mmmm, s'mores...

  7. Ha, love the pics...no matter the NORMAL pose or not!!!

We will be at big 4th party at in-laws...the boys can't wait and neither can we :)

  8. I don't know about you, but I know I never look right in pictures of me. So I play it up and purposely look bad in them. One of the best pictures of me was from a wedding I was in. The bride and I spent so much time laughing at how boring picture taking is, that we couldn't stop laughing for the actual picture. So we both look so genuinely happy in the picture that it looks amazing.

  12. Oh TOTALLY corn on the cob. The worst summers of my life were between grades 6-8 when I had braces and couldn't eat it!

  14. Looks like you guys are really having fun! I love a relaxing holiday weekend! Ours has been really relaxing so far, too. Tomorrow is busy, though, with a race in the morning and a bbq in the afternoon.

I felt like I slept in this morning, even though it was only 7 or so. I've lost the ability to sleep much later than that. I'm totally up for an afternoon nap, though!

  15. I am very jealous of that watermelon, that look soooo good. We have not had any good watermelon here in Colorado all summer, but fruit doesn't grow well here :(. Looks like a blast with the hubby :)...we did a little fireworks in our neighborhood tonight, which we do every year the day before the 4th and usually the cops come out and break it up. This year we got lucky and no cops :).

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou

Running Jewelry Giveaway from The Run Home!

Running has a tendency at times to make me feel just a little less feminine that I might like. The curves might disappear just a little (well...the top ones at least. Bottom ones are still out in full force) and I spend more time fiddling with my Garmin than I do putting on make-up. So I love when I can show my interest in running with a beautiful, feminine piece of jewelry. I recently received two necklaces from the great people at The Run Home.   They have an Etsy store full of inspirational necklaces, bracelets and more for athletes. I received this beautiful necklace in the mail from them: A cute running shoe, heart, and a hand-stamped 26.2 charm. In all honesty, I don't think I'll wear this until I have finished the marathon in November. Kind of like wearing a race shirt before you completed the race! But it will make the perfect reward and I can't wait to wear it with pride. The Run Home sent everything to me perfectly packaged--like it was a gift. I loved that:
