I love Sugar and Paparazzi

Yesterday we decided to show my MIL all the wonders of American consumerism--a trip to the local mall and Wal Mart. I thought it was important to show her how easy it was to pick up bread and ammunition all in the same place. Easy Peasy. Then a trip to the bookstore where we may have spent an inordinate amount of time looking at cookbooks. Now, I know I live in Georgia, but that Paula Deen is everywhere! There were a good 15 books with her face on them, and a huge line of cookware in Wal-Mart. Ridiculous.
I did manage to find a book that suits me pretty well. What do you think?

There were multiple cameras taking my picture at once. Not going to lie, it felt like the paparazzi were after me. Kind of awesome.

Three of us went into Walmart to get a couple of boring things like cat food and vinegar. We left with $60 worth of crap. How does that happen? We did manage to pick up 3 different kinds of ice cream though, because we're all picky and couldn't decide on one flavor. Fine by me.

Any guesses which one was for me?

Oh yes.
This was phenomenal. Dairy-free coconut ice cream. Seriously rich, very coconut-ty and somehow packs 24% of my daily fiber into one little serving. This is officially going to be my at-home frozen yogurt replacement. Amazing! If you're not a big dairy fan, this is perfect.

Off for a busy Saturday of antique-ing (yes, I'm serious, don't laugh), going to see some waterfalls, and visit a deer park. Hooray!

What are your Saturday plans? Any good workouts?
So wanting a workout today, so we shall see if I can fit one in tonight once we're back. Tell me about all your long runs so I can get inspired for mine tomorrow!

Which ice-cream would you have picked: coconut ice cream, Breyer's chocolate, or Starbucks Java Chip Frappuccino?
Dairy-free coconut all the way! Although I did have a spoonful of the Starbucks one and it was pretty tasty....

  1. Yummy....I would have picked the bryers or the starrbucks! Those both look yummy. I have never tried the SO Delicious kind before!

  2. Today I helped with a local 5K - volunteering for races is A LOT of fun . . . the fun of racing without the sweat! Ha!

Knowing what I have learned from your post, I would most definitely choose the coco flavor, but prior to being educated, I would have chosen the chocolate!

Have a great Saturday - hope you find some treasures!

  3. The Breyer's, but your's intrigues me. It almost seems like- dare I say- healthy-ish ice cream. Interesting.

I have long run on the books for today- should be 12ish but I'm dragging today. It may be a quality over quantity situation.

  4. I ran 14 miles today! They felt great (sorta) and I finished strong with an 8:44 pace! With my fastest miles being at the end. Have a good one!

I love cake batter flavor ice cream with Reese Cup! But usually I am good and buy Skinny Cows or eat Peanut Butter Fro-Yo.

  5. I ran 9 miles this morning, it was great!

I totally would have picked the coconut ice cream. I've been wanting to try it for awhile, but never wanted to fork out the money. I may have to now that I've actually heard a review. You may have sold me

  6. If you like the So Good Coconut Ice Cream you should try their ice cream sandwiches! They sell banana split sandwiches and they are to die for!

  7. I just tried the So Delicious in Mocha Almond Fudge. OH MY GOODNESS. Dean and I finished the whole thing in one sitting! We could NOT put it down. So yeah...that would be my choice :)

I just ran in the humidity. I stopped at 9km because I thought I was going to faint. So freaking HOT.

  8. I wish I had some of that Java Chip ice cream with me RIGHT NOW.

  9. I just ran a quick 4-miler... my long run was on Thursday. Have fun antique-ing! We have been doing a lot of that, trying to find older pieces that would go with our home better. Of course then we usually do something to them to 'modernize' them slightly to our taste. (paint, reupholster)

No big plans for today, except getting a new grill! And therefore probably grilling out.

  10. I was wondering if you have any concerns about the fat content for coconut milk? I have always substitute coconut milk for something else cos' of the fat content and it is saturated fat. So, am I missing something here?

  11. The coconut ice cream looks very good.

I just ran 13 miles! I'm so happy because it's my first double digt run since I got Injured 6 weeks ago. And it was a little faster than What I had been running before the injury.

    Goodluck on your workout!

  14. I'm hoping to get in a 45 mile bike ride, but its kind of rainy out and although I don't mind running in the rain, I hate biking in the rain. May just have to do 3 hours on the trainer...ugh. Enjoy your ice cream

  16. OMG! I can NOT walk into Walmart/Target without spending $100 bucks. I try not to make eye contact with the $1 bin either. I somehow find a way to buy $20 worth of crap! Yu are so not alone.

I love ice cream. Now I want some after reading your blog.

  18. Have you ever watched the show called American Pickers?? It is all about antiquing and it is awesome! I have never tried soy ice cream before but it sounds totally great! I love less dairy. But I think if I had to choose I would have gone with the java. I love coffee flavored anything. (but really the saddest part it that I prbly would go with whatever had the least amount of cals. Lame, I know!

  24. I had no idea Wal-Mart had all of those choices! They are pretty limited down here! And if their book section is that big, I am really jealous! LOL!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful

1st Wedding Anniversary--Celebrating with Chocolate!

One year ago today, I married the love of my life. And I couldn't be happier! In celebration of our very first anniversary, here are some pictures of our favorite moments together: Our first trail race together Hiking together in GA And of course, our wonderful wedding in Hong Kong. We both decided to keep things very simple, with a casual ceremony with a few friends and family and then lunch at the Mandarin Oriental. Exactly what I wanted! With our parents after making it official! Our entire wedding party. Just family and dear friends! Goofing around with my garter at the reception lunch! You think you know what couples do after they get married? You know, their first night at man and wife? If you guessed eat ridiculously delicious chocolates in their bed at the Grand Hyatt, you're right.  Oh, I haven't changed. One year later and I still celebrate with sweet things! Thanks Tim, for being a wonderful husband. I love you!

Brace Yourselves: Cuteness is Coming

One of the hardest things about moving, for me, was wondering how the cats would adjust each time. Although our cats are super travelers at this stage, I feel really guilty every time we have to pack them up and force them onto a plane. I remember my grandma telling me years ago that when she moved with a cat, they put butter on their paws. That way, the cats spent the first day in a new house licking their paws to get them clean, and that was enough time to lose the "smell" of the old house. I love that story, and I wish the same principle applied to longer moves. Anyway, that's a super long intro to say that for the fellow cat ladies out there, our three fur babies are insanely happy in this jungle gym of a home here in Florida. It's warm, there are plenty of sunny spots to curl up a take a nap, and they have lots of room to spread out. Despite the space, of course, they still usually want to take a nap on my head at night. Obviously. They also love climbing on ou
