I'm Baa-aack!

First, I have to thank all of you who left such encouraging words for me after my last post. Clearly I was so down and using all of my energy to try and remain positive. I know those days happen to everyone and I appreciate you all reminding me that it's just one run!
After the tacos, I got my Runners World in the mail which was just perfect timing.  The articles in there really inspire me and pump me up and it was exactly what I needed. I woke up feeling positive about the run this morning and I DID IT! So excited, this is the first 13-mile run I have had in well over a year and it felt amazing. I managed to finish the run in 2:04:30 (9:34 pace). For those of you who said that a great run comes after a blah one, you're right! I felt like I finished strong and this was my fastest long run pace in a while. Ok, enough patting myself on the back and on to the good stuff....

POST RUN FOOD!

I ate a Cinnamon Roll LaraBar right after my run. Honestly, I barely even noticed I was eating it. I just needed calories in my belly. I went grocery shopping even before I showered or foam rolled. I genuinely feel bad for the people in the store with me for those 30 minutes. I know I wasn't smelling good. Just for the record, I would say buying groceries after a long run is the worst idea ever not great. I wanted to buy everything. I managed to control myself a little and escaped with the things on my list and some Swedish Fish Eggs. I have never seen them before, I guess they are for Easter? I think the two of us are going to be hanging out a lot this afternoon:

After I washed the pound of dried salt off my body (TMI? I sweat a lot) I foam rolled and made my new favorite salad. On a bed of greens there are: green beans, a whole baked sweet potato, sliced strawberries, almonds, dried cranberries, and balsamic vinaigrette.

Lots of healthiness so I can eat my Swedish Fish Eggs guilt-free!

Thanks again for the kind words guys. You have inspired me to make a list of why I run in the first place. I will work on it and put it in a post soon!

What Easter foods/candies are your favorites?

What are your post long-run treats?

  1. Congrats the 13 miler!!! A year since and you pulled off a stellar pace!

Swedish fish or any gummi candy always get me! Love jelly bean this time of year!

  2. Glad to hear your 13 miler went well! My favorite Easter candies are anything chocolate. I'm sooo not picky when it comes to chocolate, it's ridiculous!

I think the best post long run meals are egg and cheese scrambles full of veggies. Pretty healthy and very satisfying, although my stomach digests them quickly, so I'm usually hungry again in a couple hours!

  3. Awesome run! I'm glad you didn't get psyched out by one bad one. I am notorious for grocery shopping after a long run. I end up buying things I don't even like, much less need.

  4. I had NO IDEA that they had Swedish Fish Eggs. I want some right now. I might have to go to CVS tomorrow to get some!!! Great job on your run. Glad you are feeling better about things. I definitely wouldn't shop after a long run either!!!

  8. What Easter candy ISN'T my favorite?! :-) I saw Hershey's "Cookies & Cream" eggs at the store the other day and I think I need them...

Congrats on a great run! The bad ones make you appreciate the good ones so much more, don't they? Have you ever read "Women's Running" magazine? That one gets me going, just like "Runner's World" does for you!

Race the Bar 5k Recap (AKA: A Personal Worst!)

Do you remember a few weeks back, when I was all braggy about running in Florida in February/March? Sunny mornings around a lake with a light breeze off the water have turned, cruelly, into humid stretches of time where I am humbly reminded of my own limitations. You guys, I see these gazelle-like creatures, men and women alike, who prance on my running route with compression socks, a soft glow of perspiration at their brow. It's beautiful. It's also a harsh reminder that I am not them. I am currently running in the thinnest, smallest items of clothing I can without offending anyone (shirt stays on, people). I dare not step outside without some awful visor or wide-brimmed hat. When I hop in the shower after a run, my face is a deep crimson that causes my husband to voice his concern for my general well-being. Have I mentioned this is what happens after my easy runs, with a few walk breaks thrown in? Yeah. It's humbling. Now, I'm not complaining. It's beautiful...

Just a Handful is Enough! Bra Review and Giveaway

You know those people who said running is the cheapest sport because all you need is shoes? Well, they're clearly not women. For me to have a successful run, I need a good pairs of shoes, wicking socks, shorts that don't chafe me, a non-cotton top, my Garmin, some body glide, and a sports bra. And let's be honest here--sometimes finding the right bra can be the most difficult part of all.  For my chest size (aka the cups aren't exactly "running over") it seems like sports bras come in two styles: 1) flattening compression bras 2) completely unsupportive bras Well, call me vain if you want, but I like to have support when I run, and also keep a little shape. And I definitely want people to recognize that I'm a woman when I run past! That's why I'm so excited to be the proud new owner of a  HANDFUL  bra!  I'm in love!  Handful bras  are designed to "flatter, not flatten" and it's true! Removable pads contour the body and keep so...

Chobani Review and Giveaway!

I'm pretty sure it's not a secret that me and Greek yogurt are in a serious relationship. I know, I know...hubby can read this. But he's well aware of the affair. At least once a day I need my fix. Sometimes it's a mid-morning snack with fruit, or a lunchtime topper for baked potatoes. Other times it's the sweet dessert topped with fruit and chocolate shavings that completes my night. Plain, vanilla, fruity...I could wax poetic about the stuff for ages. Don't worry, I won't. What I will say is that as much as I love Greek yogurt, I figured it was all the same. I saved a little money (18 cents on each container at my local store) in order to get the cheaper no-name brand. Then Chobani was on sale, so I picked up a few. Um, this stuff is THICK! So much creamier and thicker - and tastier - than any other brand I've tried. Sorry, extra 18 cents. You are now being diverted to my Chobani fund. I won a Chobani giveaway a couple of weeks ago hosted by ...
